Rochester Beats Norfolk 6-2
August 25, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Norfolk Tides News Release
The Wings wasted little time in jumping out to a lead, as Byron Buxton hit the first pitch of the game from Joe Gunkel (8-10) into left field for his ninth home run of the season. Tommy Field gave Rochester a 3-1 lead with a two-run homer in the third, and Daniel Palka and Adam Brett Walker later added solo shots to power the Wings to a series victory.
Gunkel, who was pitching on six days rest after being scratched from his start on Tuesday, yielded six runs on eight hits over seven innings of work. He walked one and struck out five, throwing 63 of his 87 pitches for strikes as he lost for the first time over his last six starts.
Mike Yastrzemski had two hits and an RBI to pace the Tides offense, while Corban Joseph singled twice in the setback. Trey Mancini added an RBI single for Norfolk, which dropped its second straight series following an 11-series stretch in which they either won or split each series they played.
The Tides continue their final regular season homestand on Friday night at Harbor Park with the first of three games against the Charlotte Knights. Andy Oliver (3-1, 2.57) gets the start for Norfolk and will be opposed by right-hander Kameron Loe (3-3, 4.33), with first pitch slated for 7:05.
On Friday, the Oriole Bird will be at Harbor Park, presented by Tidewater Community College. The first 5,000 fans will receive a Tides team photo, courtesy of John's Tax Service. The reverse side of the photo will also include the Tides 2017 schedule and the Norfolk Admirals 2016-17 hockey schedule.
