Louisville Bats News Release
INDIANAPOLIS- The Louisville Bats had the upper hand against the Indianapolis Indians at Victory Field on Thursday night, 9-2. The Bats were able to jump on the scoreboard first, making them 47-18 in games in which they do score first.
Appropriately so, the Bats put three runs on the board in the top of the first inning. The pair of RBI doubles in the first gave right-handed pitcher Robert Stephenson (7-9, 4.58) all the run support he would need to earn the victory.
The Bats were not finished scoring, however. A lone run in the fifth inning came courtesy of second baseman Dilson Herrera's first home run with the Bats. Louisville plated four more in the sixth, with the final run coming on Herrera's second RBI of the night in the seventh.
Stephenson's victorious line consisted of six innings of work. Following an outing in which he allowed six runs in two innings, Stephenson rebounded by allowing just two earned runs and striking out seven. Five hits and three walks on 102 pitches, 62 for strikes, concluded his line.
Indians' left-handed pitcher Steven Brault (2-7, 3.91) exited tonight's outngi early. After just two innings of work, the losing pitcher this evening allowed three runs, one walk, and stuck out three.
The Bats play game two of the series tomorrow night at 7:15 pm at Victory Field against the Indians with left-handed pitcher Amir Garrett (2-4, 3.36) toeing the rubber for Louisville against the Indianapolis right-handed pitcher Trevor Williams (7-6, 2.79).
