Rochester Knighthawks News Release
Game Notes: The Rochester Knighthawks battle the West Division leading Arizona Sting at 7:35 p.m. tonight at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial. The contest will be carried on the B2 Networks. Tonight's game ends a two-game in two-night stretch for the Knighthawks.
Head-to-Head: Rochester has an 0-2 lifetime record against Arizona, which includes the team's worst loss in franchise history. The Sting drubbed the K-Hawks 14-4 on March 6, 2004. The last time they met, the Sting defeated the Knighthawks 9-8 in overtime on January 15, 2005. Arizona is the only active team that Rochester has a losing record against.
Knighthawks Notes: The Knighthawks' four-game winning streak ended last night, following the team's 11-10 overtime loss to the Toronto Rock at the Air Canada Centre. Rochester (4-2) is currently tied for first place in the East Division with the Buffalo Bandits (3-1). John Grant leads the league with 23 goals and is third in points with 38 (23+15) in five games. K-Hawks goalie Pat O'Toole is tied for the NLL lead with four wins and is second with a 9.25 goals-against average. Grant was named the league's Overall Player of the Month for January. Rookie Shawn Evans leads the league with 35 penalty minutes. This week, Ed Comeau was named the head coach for the East Division at the 2006 NLL All-Star Game in Toronto.
Greer joins the Knighthawks: Rochester signed defenseman Bill Greer on February 9th. Greer was added to the active roster to replace injured defenseman Pat Cougevan. Cougevan had surgery this week to repair a torn Achilles tendon in his left leg, which he suffered in the January 28th game against the Buffalo Bandits. Greer, 24, enters his fifth season in the NLL. The Oshawa, Ontario, native has played in 57 career games and has recorded 21 goals, 41 assists and 415 loose balls, spending time in Columbus, Arizona and Anaheim.
Arizona Notes: The Sting lead the West Division with a 3-1 record, but lost their last game 18-17 in overtime to the Colorado Mammoth on February 3rd. The game was the third OT game for Arizona this season and the first loss in the extra session. Arizona forward Craig Conn was named the Overall and Offensive Player of the Week after tallying 11 points in the home loss to the Mammoth. He notched eight goals and added three assists in the game, as the team suffered its first loss of the season. Conn also collected five loose balls in the contest. Arizona Sting Head Coach Bob Hamley will lead the West Division All-Stars into the 2006 NLL All-Star Game on February 25th in Toronto.
Next Game: Rochester hosts the San Jose Stealth on Saturday, February 18th at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial. The contest will be carried on the B2 Networks.
Prior to the National Lacrosse League game, Knighthawks and Rattlers forward John Grant will hold a youth clinic on the BCA turf. The Knighthawks are offering a special Youth Clinic & Game Pack, which includes two 200-end tickets, a Knighthawks T-shirt, lacrosse ball and instruction from five-time All-Pro John Grant.
