Buffalo Bandits News Release
BUFFALO, NY (February 13, 2006) - Buffalo Bandits forward John Tavares, who is just six points away from tying the National Lacrosse League career scoring record, has been named as a starter for the East Division at the 2006 National Lacrosse League All-Star Game. The game will be held on Saturday, February 25 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ont.
Tavares, who leads the Bandits in scoring and ranks seventh in the league with 34 points (13+21), has played in four previous NLL All-Star games, recording 17 points (11+6). The Toronto, Ont. native scored four points (3+1) at the 2005 NLL All-Star Game in Calgary, Alta.
Now in his 13th season with the Bandits, Tavares has 1,085 career points (530+555), ranking him second in NLL history behind Gary Gait, who recorded 1,091 points (596+495) in 174 career games.
The starting lineups were determined by the combined votes of the league's general managers, league media, and fans, with the votes of each of the three groups weighed equally in determining the starting lineups. The twelve reserves for the East and West teams will be announced on February 14th. Each All-Star team will have a total of eighteen players, and all 11 NLL teams will have at least one player in the All-Star Game.
The East Division All-Stars will be coached by Rochester Knighthawks head coach Ed Comeau and Philadelphia Wings head coach Lindsay Sanderson. The West Division All-Stars will be coached by Arizona Sting head coach Bob Hamley and Calgary Roughnecks head coach Chris Hall.
