Swarm Signs Martin

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Swarm general manager Marty O'Neill announced today that the National Lacrosse League (NLL) club has signed free agent forward Spencer Martin to a contract and released defenseman Mark Miyashita (pronounced Mee-ash-tah).

Martin, 25 (9/8/80), collected a goal and an assist and 10 loose balls in four games with the San Jose Stealth this season before being released on January 26. The 6-foot, 185-pound forward recorded 14 points (6-8=14), 31 loose balls and 43 penalty minutes in 10 games with the Stealth in 2005. Martin has tallied 78 points (36-42=78), 70 penalty minutes and 150 loose balls in 42 career NLL contests during five seasons with Columbus, Philadelphia and San Jose. The Coquitlam, British Columbia-native was originally selected in the first round (6th overall) of the 2001 NLL Entry Draft by Columbus. He will wear jersey #18 with Minnesota.

Miyashita, 24 (2/17/81), notched four points (1-3=4) and 32 loose balls in four games with Minnesota after being signed as a free agent on January 6.
