Fort Worth Cats News Release
Pensacola right fielder Juan Rocha had a homer and four RBI Thursday night as the Pelicans defeated the Cats 9-7 at LaGrave Field.
The win was the Pelicans' second straight over the Cats as the Fort Worth record fell to 30-15 on the season. Pensacola's record improved to 27-18.
The Cats once again took an early lead as they got back-to-back run-scoring triples in the first inning from Carlos Adolfo and Tony Mota.
Pensacola tied the game, however, in the second on a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly.
Fort Worth took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second before seeing their lead evaporate the next half inning when Rocha belted a two-run homer to left to give Pensacola a 4-3 lead. It was Rocha's ninth homer of the year and his second in as many nights.
The Pelicans added a run in the fourth and three in the sixth, eventually taking a 9-4 lead before the Cats got a three-run homer from Jordan Foster in the sixth to narrow the lead to 9-7.
Fort Worth couldn't muster any more offense and the comeback attempt fell short with Pelicans' closer Josh Courage picking up his sixth save after working a perfect ninth.
Starter Shane Arthurs (1-1) earned the victory despite allowing seven runs on five hits in six innings of work.
Logan Stout (2-3) took the loss for the Cats as he lasted only 2 2/3 innings allowing four runs on five hits.
The Cats and Pelicans play Game 3 of the series on Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
