Robson Homers in Debut, Tigers Fall

Auburn, NY - The Connecticut Tigers open the series against the Hudson Valley Renegades, affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, falling by a score of 6-3. Jacob Robson, had a fine debut with Connecticut going 2-4 with a home run, his first of his professional career.

The Tigers jumped out in front for the fourth consecutive game tonight, Jacob Robson, an 8th round pick this season out of Mississippi State, reached on a bunt single, moved up to second base on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher Danny De La Calle. Robson scored the first run of the game on an RBI groundout from fellow Canadian Cole Bauml, giving Connecticut the 1-0 advantage.

Hudson Valley responded with a run in the second. Alfred Gutierrez uncharacteristically walked in a run to tie the game 1-1. The Renegades took the lead 3-1 in the fourth inning when Garrett Whitley drilled a two-out, two-run double down the left field line against Jordan Smith.

Trailing 5-1 in the sixth, Jacob Robson stepped back up to the dish with a runner on and one out. Robson yanked a two-run shot over the right field fence for his first professional long ball. The home run was the first home run by a Tigers player at Dodd Stadium that wasn't Blaise Salter.

The Tigers only mustered five hits on the night and could not come from behind, losing 6-3.

Joe Navilhon continued his dominance on the hill pitching 1.2 innings of shutout ball. Brandyn Sittinger also pitched a scoreless inning for the Tigers.

The Tigers seek to even the series up tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. New York-Penn League All-Star Locke St John will be on the bump for Connecticut.
