
Robinson Named Number One Star for February

Glendale, AZ (March 1st) - The Central Hockey League announced Thursday that Wichita forward Matt Robinson has been named as the number one star as part of the Oakley Three Stars of the Month Awards. For winning the 'Oakley Three Star Player of the Month' for February, Matt Robinson will receive a special gift from Oakley. Players are awarded five points for first star recognition, three points for a second star nod and a single point for being named the third star of the game.
Robinson finished the month with 12 goals, five of them serving as game winners and 18 points. He was named first star four times and the second star three times, good for 29 points. The Surrey, British Columbia native has 29 goals and 21 assists on the season. He also had four multi-goal games and is one shy of reaching 30 goals for the second season in a row. The South Surrey, BC native sits in 10th place all-time in Thunder history for goals scored (68).
In other news on Thursday, Wichita moved back in the latest Coaches Poll after sitting in first place for six weeks. The new number one is the Evansville IceMen, who was the first team this season to start at the top of the poll. The poll is released on or near the beginning and middle of each month throughout regular season. Each first place vote receives 10 points, second place votes earn 9 points, etc.
The IceMen and Thunder have split two games over the past week and will meet again on Friday night in Evansville. The Thunder moved down one slot to #2 in the current poll and no other team in the top five remained the same as the IceMen moved up from #3 to #1, the Fort Wayne Komets moved up one spot from #4 to # 3, the Allen Americans dropped three spots from #2 to #5 and the Texas Brahmas made the biggest move up four spots to #4.
Evansville earned eight first place votes and Wichita was named the top team on six ballots (teams are unable to vote for themselves). The IceMen had their 10-game win streak snapped on Wednesday night in an 8-5 loss to the Thunder but still finished the month of February with an 11-4-0 record and a league-high 22 points.
Teams ranked #6 through #10 all shifted position with the exception of the Tulsa Oilers who remained in the #9 spot and Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees who remained in the #10 spot.
Wichita remains in the state of Indiana for the next two games, taking on Evansville for the second time this week on Friday and will not return to the Air Capital till March 14th against Rapid City.
