Robinson Nabs Player of the Week Honors
December 30, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS (December 30th) - The Central Hockey League announced Monday that Thunder forward Matt Robinson has been selected as the Oakley CHL Player of the Week for the period ending on December 29th. This is the first league honor earned by a Thunder player this season and the third of Robinson's career.
Robinson began the week with a three-point outing on Friday night (2g, 1a) that helped the Thunder blow past the Tulsa Oilers at the BOK Center 8-2. The South Surrey, British Columbia native followed up that performance with a goal and an assist including the game-winner on Saturday night during Wichita's come-from-behind 3-2 victory against the St. Charles Chill. Robinson closed out the weekend with an assist in the Thunder's 5-2 win on Sunday afternoon during the regular season finale against St. Charles. He totaled six points (3g, 3a), was a +4 and had two game-winning-goals. Robinson is riding a six-game point-streak with 13 points over that span (4g, 9a).
The eight-year pro is one goal shy of 100 for his Thunder career after adding three markers over the weekend. Robinson would be just the fifth player in team history to hit the century mark. He collected back-to-back game-winning goals over the weekend and now has 24 in a Thunder uniform. He is one point shy (176) of moving ahead of Daniel Tetrault into eighth place all-time in a Thunder uniform.
In recognition of his achievement, Robinson will receive a special gift from Oakley. To learn more about all of Oakley's products, visit www.oakley.com .
Wichita closes out a busy stretch of four games in five days Tuesday night on New Year's Eve in Allen against the Americans at 6:05 p.m.
Individual game tickets are on sale now. Season tickets and mini plans are still available. Don't delay, contact the Wichita Thunder Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at (316) 264-4625. Stay up-to-date on all the news this off-season by visiting www.wichitathunder.com.
