Roberts complete game and 20 hits give Dillas 14-3 win

AMARILLO, TX - Ralph Roberts pitched a gem on Saturday night, allowing only three runs off six hits. He was helped out by 20 Amarillo hits in the game for a 14-3 victory over the Laredo Broncos in front of 2,046 fans at the Amarillo National Dilla Villa.

Roberts (2-1) lowered his already team-low ERA as he allowed only an RBI single in the sixth and homerun in the ninth for the win. Broncos starter Nathan Crawford (0-2) got the loss in his first start of the season, going an out past three innings and gave up five earned runs and seven hits.

Amarillo took the early lead in the first as Andrew Wong doubled, went to third on a pass ball and Terrance McClain walked to put runners on the corners. Trent Lockwood singled to left to score Wong, while McClain scored as the ball skipped past David Cardona in left field for a 2-0 lead in the first.

The Dillas would add two more in the second inning with a Keanon Simon sacrifice fly and another error brought the Amarillo lead to four runs. Four more runs would follow in the fourth after six hits, including two triples. Another triple and another sacrifice fly in the fifth moved Amarillo up 9-0.

Laredo would breakup the shutout in the sixth inning with an RBI single by Jamie Morales, which brought the score to 9-1.

The Dillas would score five more runs in the ninth off six hits to move ahead by 13. Roberts allowed a two-run homer in the ninth, but would finish out the game to give Amarillo a 14-3 victory.

With the win, the Dillas improve to 16-14, while the Broncos fall to 9-21. Sunday, Amarillo will host Laredo for the third game of a four-game series at 6:05pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 5:55pm online via AudioSportsOnline.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
