Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release
ELMIRA, NY - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), dropped their second game of the season in game two of their current three-game road trip to the Elmira Jackals 7-5 on Saturday night.
Team captain David Beauregard scored just 25 seconds into the match off assists from Mark Scott and Petr Jelinek to put the Vipers on the board first. The Jackals answered with six consecutive goals, four of which came before the end of the first period. At 15:09 of the second period, the Vipers started a rally of their own, as Mike Krelove and Rico Fatticci fed the puck to Josh Tataryn, who scored his second goal of the season.
The Vipers came out strong at the start of the third period, scoring three goals on Jackals netminder Nick Boucher. Scott got two past the 5-foot-11, 175-pound Boucher at 4:34 and 18:48 of the period. Jelinek, assisted by Beauregard and right wing Jan Jas, also scored on a power play at 7:53 of period three.
Following Scott's second goal, with the Vipers trailing by just one, Head Coach Jim Wiley opted to pull goaltender Shawn Conschafter in favor of sending an extra attacker to the ice. The Vipers could not hang onto the puck, however, as Sam Paolini gained control and diminished the Vipers' hopes of tying the game with an empty net goal at 19:09. Boucher was successful in holding off the Vipers for the remaining 51 seconds of play.
Roanoke's record falls to an even .500 at 2-2-0, as the Jackals improve their record to the same. The Vipers will travel to Danbury, CT to face the Trashers on Sunday evening at 7:00p.m. The game, as are all Vipers home and away games, will be called by the Voice of the Vipers, Matt Rosen, on 3WR/Fox Sports Radio, which is 910AM in Roanoke, 990AM in the New River Valley, and can also be accessed via the web by clicking on the "Listen Live" link at www.valleyvipershockey.com.
