Roanoke Dazzle News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., January 16 - Will Bynum and Peter John Ramos combined for 59 points as the Roanoke Dazzle won for the second time in as many days, closing out the NBA Development League MLK Showcase with a 119-108 victory over the Fayetteville Patriots.

Roanoke shot 58-percent (40-68) from the floor while improving to 9-12. Fayetteville, which recorded a Showcase record 12 steals, dropped to 4-13.

Bynum connected on 11-of-15 field goal attempts and scored 33 points, one short of the Showcase record set by Tulsa's Bernard King last season. Bynum also dished out eight assists, but committed 10 turnovers. Ramos, on assignment from the Washington Wizards, scored 26 (10-of-13 FGA), had nine rebounds and blocked four shots.

"We did a better job of defending in the paint tonight and were also able to score under the basket," Roanoke head coach Kent Davison said. "Anytime you can get up around 60 in the paint you have a good chance of winning."

Isiah Victor scored 19 and had nine rebounds. Anthony Grundy chipped in 17 and Seth Doliboa 12 for the Dazzle, who survived 23 turnovers but scored 56 points from inside.

"We had a couple of good things happen for us, like one time Isiah Victor hit a three from way out with two seconds left on the shot clock," Davison said. "I told (assistant) coach (Chucky) Brown I want Isiah to hit that shot every time down the floor and I will be a coaching genius."

Roderick Riley scored 22 and had 13 rebounds to lead Fayetteville. Melvin Sanders contributed 21 and Sharrod Ford 12. Norm Richardson and Mike King added 12 and 10, respectively, for the Patriots.

"They got easy baskets - layups and dunks - and a bunch of free throws. They shot 58-percent because we let them," Fayetteville coach Mike Brown said. "We get 22 more shots than them, outrebound them and force 23 turnovers, but give up 119 points. You never win that way."

Fayetteville attempted 90 field goals and Roanoke 68, but the Fayetteville made two less (40-38) in a game that saw the Patriots lead by as many as 15 and Roanoke by as many as 14.

Boston Celtics' 2005 first-round draft pick Gerald Green, on assignment to Fayetteville, came off the bench to score 15 points in 20 minutes. He had four rebounds, two steals and committed five turnovers.

"I believe I can play better than I did these two games, but I haven't played a game in three months," Green said. "That's why I'm glad to be here so I can get out on the floor."

Fayetteville travels to Arkansas on Thursday and then returns home to host Roanoke on Saturday and Sunday.
