Roadrunners Slip Past Reign in Special-Teams Battle

Tucson, AZ - Defenseman Vincent LoVerde recorded two assists, but the Ontario Reign (19-8-6-0) fell to Tucson Roadrunners (19-9-4-0) 3-2 at Tucson Arena Monday evening.

Forward Jonny Brodzinski put the Reign up 1-0 on the power play at 15:39 of the first period, blasting a shot past the blocker of Roadrunners netminder Justin Peters (W, 33 saves on 35 shots) from the right-wing circle. Defensemen Zac Leslie and Vincent LoVerde picked up assists. With the helper, Leslie extended his personal assist streak to six games (six assists).

The Roadrunners fought back in the second period with a pair of power-play goals to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission. Forward Chris Mueller tapped in a feed from former Reign defenseman Jamie McBain at 7:33 to tie the contest and forward Henrik Samuelsson powered a shot past Reign goalie Jack Campbell (L, 22 saves on 25 shots) at 11:41.

In the third period, Reign forward Adrian Kempe powered in a man-advantage marker at 11:17, but the Roadrunners went up for good at 12:40 when defenseman Zbynek Michalek rifled in his third goal of the season off the post and past Campbell from the left-wing point. The Reign finished the contest 2-for-7 on the power play while the Roadrunners went 2-for-5.
