Roadrunners Shut out Colts, 3-0, Saturday

Edinburg, Texas --- The Edinburg Roadrunners' pitching staff guided them to a 3-0 win over the San Angelo Colts Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Starter Mike Loseke and closer Alex Schmarzo combined for the shutout. Loseke (5-1) earned the win, and Schmarzo collected his third save. Loseke allowed seven hits and struck out a game-high three batters in eight-plus innings before giving way to Schmarzo.
Pitching on both teams was stellar through the first four innings. Loseke and Colts' starter Derek Christensen kept the game scoreless until the bottom of the fifth.
Edinburg left fielder Carlton Salters broke the scoreless tie with a solo home run in the fifth. It was his fourth homer of the season.
The Roadrunners took a 2-0 lead with an unearned run in the sixth. Third baseman Travis Clark hit a leadoff single, advanced to second on a ground out, and then scored from third on an error. The error allowed designated hitter Augustin Septimo to reach base and move to second base.
Edinburg scored its third and final run in the eighth. First baseman Trevor Whyte hit a two-out double and came home on an RBI single by catcher Dan Coury.
The Colts threatened in the ninth inning by loading the bases, but in the end they failed to score.
Colts' starter Derek Christensen (5-3) pitched a great game, but took the loss with no run support. Christensen gave up three runs on seven hits in eight innings.
The win improves Edinburg to 32-30, while the Colts' seventh loss in a row drops them to 27-32. This series concludes Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. The game can be heard live on 1260 KKSA beginning at 5:55 p.m.
The Colts conclude their seven-game road trip with a four-game set against the Edinburg Roadrunners from Thursday, July 25 through Sunday, July 28. The Colts then return home for a 15-game home stand on Tuesday, July 30. It will be the final home stand of the season for San Angelo.
