Fort Worth Cats News Release
The Fort Worth Cats rallied after trailing by six runs in the fifth inning on Saturday night, but could not hold off the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, as they walked off in the ninth inning at Harlingen Field.
The Cats (38-24) scored first as David Bergin hit his United League-leading 11th home run of the season in the first inning before the WhiteWings (31-30) tallied five runs on four hits, two walks and two errors in the first off starter T.J. Bozeman.
This was the second rough outing in a row for Bozeman, as he was pulled and replaced by Stephen Nikonchik to start the second inning.
Nikonchik gave up two runs over three innings of relief.
The Cats began the improbable comeback in the fifth inning, scoring three times in that inning and three more times in the seventh.
After the team squandered a scoring opportunity in the top of the ninth, James Giulietti surrendered the game-winning single to second baseman Thomas Shull with one out in the bottom half.
The final score was 8-7.
The Cats face the WhiteWings in the final game of the series on Sunday at 6:05 p.m. in Harlingen.
After a day off on Monday, the Cats begin a four-game home series against the Edinburg Roadrunners on Tuesday.
Tickets to all home games can be purchased by calling (817) 332-CATS or by going online to FWCats.com.
