Roadrunners Score Season High, Beat Thunder

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners pounded out a season high 15 runs on 15 hits en route to a 15-9 victory over the McAllen Thunder Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Wilson Batista got the scoring started for the Thunder (12-13) in the top of the first with a lead-off solo home run making it 1-0 McAllen.

The Roadrunners (10-15) answered back in the bottom of the first. C.J. Beatty led off with a double and then came into score on an RBI single by Brandon Wilkerson. Two walks and an out later, Stantrel Smith hit an RBI single to right field that scored Wilkerson from third giving Edinburg the 2-1 lead.

McAllen grabbed the lead in the top of the second with an RBI double by Eric Eiland and an RBI single by Derek Marshall that made it 3-2.

In the bottom of the third, the Roadrunners sent 11 batters to the plate knocking out starter Kendrick Martin (1-2) from the ball game. Gabe Memmert highlighted the inning with a bases clearing three-run double helping to give Edinburg the 8-3 lead.

The Thunder cut the Roadrunners lead in half in the top of the fourth. With the bases loaded, Batista hit an RBI fielder's choice that allowed Adam Matos to score from third making it 8-4.

Wellington Dotel extended Edinburg's lead in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run, his first with the team, making it 10-4.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Thunder once again cut the Roadrunners lead in half. Mike Goss hit an RBI single that allowed Eiland to score which made it 10-5.

The Roadrunners got a two-run single by Memmert and a three-run home run by Osiel Flores in the bottom of the seventh that extended their lead to 15-5.

McAllen added one run in the top of the eight and three in the top of the ninth but Graham Miller closed out the ball game in the ninth giving Edinburg the 15-9 victory.

Toro Trevino (1-0) picked up the win after allowing five runs, three earned, in six innings and striking out six.

The Roadrunners and Thunder will play game two of their four-game series Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Corey Goudeau (0-4) is expected to face Rashad Ford (1-0) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
