
Roadrunners Score Early, Defeat Thunder

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners scored at least one run in each of the first four innings as they defeated the McAllen Thunder 11-2 Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Ryde Rodriguez got the scoring started for the Roadrunners (18-21) in the bottom of the first with a grand slam giving them the 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, Fernando De Los Santos hit a three-run home run, his second of the season. After Trevor Whyte reached on a single, he came in and scored on Dan Coury's RBI double extending Edinburg's lead 7-0.
Tim Maitland kept the scoring going in the bottom of the third with an RBI single that scored Jordan Itier from second. De Los Santos then hit a two-run double to the left field corner that scored Kori Melo and Maitland making it 10-0.
The Roadrunners put another run on the board in the bottom of the fourth on Juan Cabrera's RBI single but the Thunder (14-25) answered with a run of their own in the top of the fifth. Andy White hit an RBI single that cut Edinburg's lead 11-1.
Leo Madrid and Ryan Bean combined for four innings of relief as Bean allowed a run in the ninth before retiring the side and giving Edinburg the 11-2 victory.
Roadrunners' starter Antony Bello (2-4) pitched five innings while allowing just one run on four hits and striking out six for his first win of the season as a member of the Roadrunners.
Jacob Douglas (2-3) lasted two and a third innings after allowing 11 runs, 10 of which were earned, as he took the loss for McAllen.
The Roadrunners will go for the sweep of the Thunder on Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
