Cats Sign Second Greek National Player

July 2, 2013 - United League Baseball (ULB)
Fort Worth Cats News Release

The Fort Worth Cats signed rookie catcher Nikko Tountas on Tuesday afternoon. In the corresponding roster move, the team released catcher Brian White.

Tountas is a first-year player out of Vanguard University of Southern Carolina who has experience on the 2011 Greek National Team, which was coached by Cats' manager Jim Essian.

Tountas joins fellow catcher Chris Christopoulos as the second Greek-American player on the Fort Worth roster. Tountas and Christopoulos, who was acquired in a trade with the Edinburg Roadrunners on June 26, were both coached by Essian on the Greek National Team prior to being signed by the Cats.

White had been a backup catcher since the Cats released Cody Brooks earlier in the season. White had a .163 average in 43 at-bats with the team. He had seven walks to go along with his seven hits - none of which went for extra bases.

Essian said that the team is confident that another team will sign White in the coming weeks.
