Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
The Edinburg Roadrunners want their current seven game trip away from Edinburg Baseball Stadium to end after suffering a painful one run defeat at the hands of the Pensacola Pelicans 4-3 at Pelican Park Sunday night. The loss dropped Edinburg to 5-10 on the road this season and 2-4 on the current road swing.
Pedro Flores pitched well in his seventh start of the season, but took the loss. Flores (4-2) allowed eight hits and four earned runs while striking out four in his seven innings of work.
Pensacola used three extra base hits to grab their four runs. The scoring began for Pensacola in the second inning after back to back RBI doubles from second baseman Carlos Mendoza and catcher Jose Salas which made the score 2-0.
Edinburg would tie the game in the top half of the fourth inning with a two-run RBI triple off the bat of Cedrick Harris deep to the gap in right center field. The hit by Harris scored Eddie Lara and Wilson Burwell who had singles earlier in the inning.
The score would not stay tied for long as Pensacola third baseman Trino Aguilar added a two run RBI triple of his own to nearly the same spot Harris hit his in right center. Aguilar's hit made the score 4-2.
Edinburg would pull to within one after an RBI groundout by Wilson Burwell in the eighth.
Santos Hernandez took the win for Pensacola as he allowed just two earned runs in six innings of work while striking out eight. Hernandez (3-2) walked only one in just his second start of 2005.
Dan Valentin (2-1) will take to the hill on Monday for Edinburg in the final game of the road trip. Pensacola will counter with right-hander Shane Arthurs.
