Pensacola Pelicans News Release
The Pelicans continue to play well at home tonight as they beat the Edinburg Roadrunners 4-3 and improved their home record to 10-2 on the season.
Pensacola scored first in the second inning when Larry Bethea led off the inning by once again getting hit by a pitch, his 10th hit-by-pitch of the year. Carlos Mendoza and Jose Salas then hit back to back doubles of scoring Bethea and Mendoza.
Pelicans starting pitcher Santos Hernandez was cruising right along keeping the Roadrunners scoreless for the first three innings. Edinburg tied things at up at two in the 4th inning when Cedrick Harris tripled to right center that scored Eddie Lara and Wilson Burwell who both singled earlier.
It didn't take long for Pensacola to reclaim the lead as they scored two runs in the 4th to stay ahead for good. Nestor Smith led off the inning with a walk and was pushed to second by a Jose Salas single. Trino Aguilar then had a triple of his own that scored the go ahead run and what would be the winning run in Salas.
Hernandez settled down after the 4th and pitched two more scoreless innings. He finished giving up six hits and two runs in six innings while striking out eight.
Josh Courge came into pitch the 8th inning. He gave up one run on no hits and struck out two.
With the score 4-3 Pensacola, Bubba Dobson came in to pitch the 9th inning in the save opportunity. He threw a scroless and hitless ninth and struck out two to record his second save of the year.
The same two teams face off tomorrow night at 6:35. Shane Arthurs takes the hill for the Pelicans and will be faced by Dan Valentine for the Roadrunners.
