Roadrunners Rally to Take Series from Prairie Dogs

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners rallied for a run in the bottom of the eighth to defeat the Abilene Prairie Dogs 3-2 Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Tied at two in the bottom of the eighth, Tim Battle reached on an error and then used his speed to move into scoring position. After stealing second and third, Battle came in to score on a sacrifice fly giving Edinburg (22-14) the lead for good.
The Prairie Dogs (15-20) got a run in the top of the third without recording a hit. With Bryan Fogle at third, a wild pitch allowed him to score giving Abilene the 1-0 lead.
Cristobal Santana started the bottom of the fifth with a double and then came in to score on an RBI single by Eric Bloom. With runners on the corners, Wilmer Pino hit an RBI ground out that allowed Bloom to score giving the Roadrunners the 2-1 edge.
Abilene tied the game at two in the top of the sixth with an RBI double by Joe Weik that scored Wilson Batista.
Dave Dinelli, who got a no-decision, allowed two runs in seven and a third innings pitch and struck out nine.
With a one run lead, Robert Roth then came in to pitch in the bottom of the ninth and got Zach Welch to fly out to end the game for his first save of the season and giving Edinburg the 3-2 victory.
Paul Koss (1-1) got the win after not allowing a run in two-thirds of an inning pitched.
The Roadrunners will face off against the McAllen Thunder Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
