Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
EDINBURG, Texas---The North American League's Edinburg Roadrunners held a successful tryout this past weekend at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in which they invited Carl Johnson, Gabe Memmert and Adam Gordon to spring training.
"I am excited, said Roadrunner Manager Steve Maddock. "We found three guys that can help the ball club now."
Johnson played with Coastal Bend in 2010 and appeared in 37 games and hit .233 with one home run and 11 RBIs. The versatile catcher can also play first base and the outfield while he attempts to make the team.
Memmert enters his 11th season in professional baseball and in 2010 played with the Laredo Broncos. He appeared in 26 games while hitting two home runs and driving in 12.
Gordon played his rookie season with Yuma of the then Golden League and hit .280 with one home run and 10 RBIs. Prior to his time in Yuma, Gordon played collegiate baseball with Florida A&M where he played three seasons.
The joint tryout between the Roadrunners and the McAllen Thunder was held over two days this past weekend and saw over 30 players participate.
"It was a good turnout," Maddock said, "We saw some good things out there. We saw some players we can use now and some that we may use down the road."
The team meets for the first time on Tuesday May 17th for physicals and will have first workouts on Wednesday May 18th.
The season begins on May 25 when they welcome the Rio Grande Valley White Wings to Edinburg Baseball Stadium for a four-game series. Individual Game and Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling (956)-380-4446 or Go to www.roadrunnerball.com for more information.
