Roadrunners Fall Late to the WhiteWings

HARLINGEN, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings got a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Edinburg Roadrunners 5-4 Wednesday night at Harlingen Field.

With the scored tied at four in the bottom of the ninth, the WhiteWings (8-5) got a walk-off RBI single from LL Baroso that scored Jordan Price, who started the inning with a single, giving RGV the 5-4 victory.

The Roadrunners (6-7) jumped out to the quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a two-run double by Carlos Hereaud that allowed Wilmer Pino and Pascual Del Real to score.

RGV cut the Edinburg lead in half in the bottom of the first with an RBI groundout by Fidel Hernandez that made it 2-1.

In the top of the second, the Roadrunners added to their lead with an RBI single from Del Real that allowed Osiel Flores to make it 3-1.

The WhiteWings grabbed the lead in the bottom of the third. Francisco Santana got the scoring in the inning started with an RBI single that allowed Nick Lazendorf to score. A wild pitch in then allowed Bryan Marquez and Santana to score giving RGV the 4-3 lead.

Derek Perren tied the game for the Roadrunners in the top of the fourth with an RBI single that allowed Pino, who reached on an error, to score from third.

Paul Koss (0-1) got the loss after allowing the one run in two and a third innings. Nick Lazendorf got the win for RGV after pitching two scoreless innings and striking out two.

The Roadrunners and WhiteWings will play the third game of their four-game series Thursday night at Harlingen Field with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
