San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- The San Angelo Colts announced Wednesday they have signed righthander Reece Cross and placed lefty Ryan Riddle on the inactive list.
Cross, 23, began the season on the Fort Worth Cats' roster, but he did not get the opportunity to pitch. Last year he played for the Edinburg Roadrunners and the Grand Prairie AirHogs of the independent American Association.
Between Edinburg and Grand Prairie, Cross made 14 relief appearances and posted a 7.00 earned-run average. Cross did not have a decision with either club.
Manager Doc Edwards plans to use Cross as the Colts' fifth starter.
Cross played his first three years of college ball at the Division I University of Central Arkansas, and then transferred to the Division II University of Arkansas at Monticello for his senior season. He went 8-11 with a 5.76 earned-run average in 53 games and 19 starts at Central Arkansas. Then he posted a 6-5 record with a 7.02 earned-run average in 12 starts for Arkansas at Monticello.
The Colts put Riddle on the inactive list due to inflammation in his throwing arm. Riddle was initially scheduled to start Friday in Fort Worth, but instead fellow southpaw Kyle Boggio will make a spot start that day.
The Colts next home game is Saturday, June 9 at 7:05 p.m. against the Abilene Prairie Dogs. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a Colts' t-shirt, courtesy of 1st Community Federal Credit Union.
The San Angelo Colts are a member of United League Baseball who are in their 13th season. Tickets are on sale now, and available at the Colts' front office at Foster Field.
