Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
EDINBURG, TEXAS ---- The Edinburg Roadrunners won their eighth straight after a walk-off wild pitch defeating the Laredo Broncos 5-4 Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The Broncos (21-38) got the scoring started in the first when Mario Mendez hit a sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Luis Ugueto to score making it a 1-0 game.
In the second inning David Cardona hit a single then moved to third on a double by Andres Santos which put two runners in scoring position. Jaime Morales followed with a two-run double to right field that drove in Cardona and Santos making the score 3-0.
Vincent Blue led off the bottom of the second with a walk and after one out Osiel Flores hit an RBI double to right center field that allowed Blue to score making it 3-1 in favor of the Broncos.
Argelis Nunez kept the top of the third inning going with a two-out double to left center and Luany Sanchez followed with an RBI single to center field that drove in Nunez extending Laredo's lead 4-1.
Flores hit a double with two outs in the bottom of the fourth and Nick Aranda followed with his first home run of the season to bring the Roadrunners (31-27) within one at 4-3.
Robert Matlock hit a double over the left fielder's head to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning and Carlos Hereaud followed with a walk to put two runners on for Hunter Owen who then moved up the runners with a sacrifice bunt. Broncos' starter Will Palmer then intentionally walked Bryon Smith to face Vincent Blue who followed with a sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Matlock to score to tie things at four.
Heading into the ninth with things tied, Broncos' reliever Julio Pinto (2-4) hit Hereaud to put him at first for Owen who again dropped the sacrifice bunt, but the throw by Pinto to second was wild and allowed Hereaud to advance to third. Once again the Broncos decided to intentionally walk Smith to face Blue with the bases loaded but Franklyn Gracesqui threw a wild pitch that allowed Hereaud to score the game winning run giving Edinburg a 5-4 win, their eighth straight.
