St. George RoadRunners News Release
ST. GEORGE - The St. George RoadRunners proved to the rest of the GBL Monday night that Seals' ace Isaac Hess is beatable. St. George knocked the southpaw around for 10 hits in four-plus innings and held off a late Victoria comeback for a 15-9 win in the first meeting between the two clubs.
The home victory snapped the RoadRunners' season-long five game losing streak (9-9, 34-24). The Seals dropped their third straight on the road (7-13, 24-37).
Offense frozen over the weekend in Orange County thawed out at Bruce Hurst Field. The RoadRunners pounded out 20 hits against Victoria in the series opener, six more then they had in the entire series against the Flyers.
Victoria starter Isaac Hess took most of the damage inflicted by St. George to lose for the first time since August 16, 2008 - back when he was a member of Windy City in the Frontier League.
Rookie outfielder Chase Leavitt had his best night as a professional going 4-for-4 with three runs batted in and a walk. A.J. Valentine (3-5) and Jose Rodriguez (3-4, 3RBI) each finished a home run short of the cycle. Henry Calderon added three hits to extend his hitting streak to five games.
Yosvany Almario blasted his sixth homer in the fifth inning to cap off an eight-run frame for the home team.
David Seccombe allowed an unearned run in the first, but held the Seals off the board until the sixth. He ended up scattering six runs, four earned on 11 hits to pick up the win (7-2). Seccombe has won three of his last four starts and four-in-a-row at home.
Wilver Perez went 3-for-6 and Sergio Pedroza knocked home three with a triple to lead the Seals' offense.
The series continues Tuesday night with game two. First pitch is scheduled at 7:05pm Mountain. The RoadRunners will start LHP Luis Gonzalez (5-5, 5.07) while Victoria is expected to counter with RHP Aaron Trolia (NR, 6.23).
Listen to the live action on the RoadRunners Radio Network with John Potter beginning with the pregame show at 6:45pm.
