
Roadrunners Drop Opener

FORT WORTH, Texas - the Fort Worth Cats used a late rally in the latter innings to defeat the Edinburg Roadrunners by a score of 4-0 on opening night of the United League Baseball at LaGrave Field.
The game was a scoreless until the seventh inning when the Cats (1-0) offense tacked on a pair of runs in seventh and eighth innings courtesy of an RBI single by Greg Bachman which made it 1-0. The second run came on a passed ball to make it 2-0.
In the eighth inning the Cats added RBIs by Kobi Melo and Cody Brooks to make it 4-0 in favor of Fort Worth.
Roadrunners (0-1) starter Justin Klipp pitched six scoreless innings with 13 strikeouts but left with a no decision. The loss went to Taylor Reid (0-1) who gave up four runs in two innings of labor.
The winning pitcher was Stephen Nikonchik (1-0), who threw three scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
Carlton Salters went 1-for-3 and Trevor McDonald went 1-for-1, with a walk paced the offense for the Roadrunners.
The Cats and Roadrunners will play the second game of the four game series in Fort Worth on Friday night with first pitch set for 7:05 pm.
Roadrunners home opener is on Saturday, June 1st at 7:05 as they host the Fort Worth Cats at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
