Fort Worth Cats News Release
The Fort Worth Cats used dominant pitching and a late rally to defeat the Edinburg Roadrunners 4-0 on the opening night of 2013.
Cats designated hitter Jose Canseco went one for three with an intentional walk and two strikeouts in the game.
After Edinburg starting pitcher Justin Klipp held the Cats scoreless through the first six innings, while notching 14 strikeouts, he faltered in the seventh and the Cats took advantage.
Following Klipp's 14th strikeout, Cats left fielder Daniel Meeley got a base hit and catcher Cody Brooks was subsequently hit by a pitch.
That chased Klipp and on came Roadrunner reliever Taylor Reid. After he loaded the bases, third baseman Greg Bachman grounded an infield hit to short and Edinburg shortstop Trevor McDonald's throwing error to first base allowed an extra run to score, putting the Cats on top 2-0.
The Cats added two more runs in the eighth.
Fort Worth starter James Giulietti threw four innings of shutout baseball, allowing only two hits, before Stephen Nikonchik and Chad Robinson came out on to finish the shut out without allowing another base hit. Nikonchik came away with the win.
The Cats will take on the Roadrunners Friday at 7 p.m. at historic LaGrave Field. Tickets can be purchased online at FWCats.com or by phone at (817) 332-CATS.
