
Roadrunners Drop Opener to 'Wings

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners dropped the opening game of their four-game series to the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings after a 3-0 loss Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The WhiteWings (34-39) got on the board in the top of the second against Mike Loseke. With a couple of runners on, Hiroki Itakura hit an RBI single to left field scoring Hector Garcia from third. Roberto Ramirez then followed with an RBI single that scored Kieren Bradford giving RGV the 2-0 advantage.
Albert Carpen extended the lead for the 'Wings in the top of the fifth with an RBI single scoring Itakura from second making it 3-0.
The Roadrunners (36-37) got a strong start from Mike Loseke who pitched seven and a third innings and allowed three runs, two earned, while striking out four. Loseke (5-2) took the loss.
Edinburg did get a one-out single by Trevor Whyte, who finished two-for-four on the night, but Nelson Curry retired the side giving RGV the 3-0 victory. It was Curry's fourth save of the season.
Trent Evins (7-5) picked up the victory after pitching eight shutout innings and striking out four on the night.
The Roadrunners and WhiteWings will play the second game of their four-game series Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the first pitch schedule for 7:05 p.m.
Thursday will the final Thirsty Thursday of the season where beverages will sold at a discounted price and it will be Memorial Funeral Home sports bottle giveaway where the first 1,000 thru the gate will receive a bottle.
