San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas --- San Angelo Colts' starter Eric Sheridan gave up three early runs and then settled down to guide his team to a 4-3 victory Thursday night at Foster Field.

After allowing the three runs, Sheridan (7-3) pitched six shutout innings to earn the win. He surrendered three runs on nine hits, and struck out a game-high seven batters in eight innings. Sheridan retired the Cats in order twice, and faced the minimum number of batters in four innings.

Cats' designated hitter David Bergin gave his team a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a solo home run that was crushed over the left field wall. It was Bergin's league-best 17th homer and 58th RBI.

A two-run second inning then propelled Fort Worth to an early 3-0 advantage. San Angelo responded immediately, however, with three runs in the bottom of the second. Third baseman Ryan Hutson and catcher Bubby Williams drew a one-out walk and hit-by-pitch, respectively. Right fielder Cody Hudson followed with an RBI single that scored Hutson.

Williams and Hudson then came home on a two-run double by first baseman Steve Rinaudo.

San Angelo took the lead in the fourth on an RBI single by left fielder Joseph Hicks. The base hit drove in Hudson, who had led off the inning with a single.

Both team's pitching staffs held the offenses at bay for the remainder of the game. Although he finished strong, Cats' starter Nick Huff (0-1) suffered the loss. Huff allowed all four runs on nine hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Colts' closer Cephas Howard shut the door on Fort Worth with a scoreless ninth inning for his league-best ninth save.

The win improves San Angelo to 37-35, while the loss drops Fort Worth to 44-28. This series continues with game two Thursday night at Foster Field.

It will be a Thirsty Thursday/$1 Beer Night, sponsored by Miller Lite. Fans 21 and over can enjoy $1 draughts and $2 bottles all night long, courtesy of Miller Lite. There will also be music in the beer garden after the game. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
