San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners scored three runs in the ninth inning to break a tie game and defeat the San Angelo Colts, 8-5, Tuesday night at Foster Field.

Roadrunners' centerfielder Tim Maitland scored the go-ahead run on an RBI single by former Colt, left fielder Derrick Pyles. Maitland drew a one-out walk, stole second and then advanced to third on an error. Third baseman Travis Clark and first baseman Trevor White then scored valuable insurance runs on a 2 RBI single by designated hitter Carlton Salters.

Colts' closer Cephas Howard (4-3) gave up all three runs in the ninth, and therefore took the loss. Howard allowed the runs on three hits and a walk in 2/3 of an inning.

San Angelo led 2-0 after three innings, but then Edinburg rallied for five runs in the top of the fourth. Catcher Dan Coury crushed a three-run homer that inning, driving in Whyte and Pyles. It was Coury's team-best seventh home run of the year.

The Colts battled back to tie the game at five in the fifth and seventh innings, but the Roadrunners' late surge propelled them to victory.

Edinburg reliever Cullen Babin (5-1) earned the win, pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Closer Alex Schmarzo then pitched a scoreless ninth to collect his sixth save of the year.

The win improves Edinburg to 36-36, while the loss drops San Angelo to 36-35. The Colts begin an eight-game home-and-home series against the Fort Worth Cats Wednesday night at Foster Field.

It will be a Sure Win Wednesday, sponsored by Sherwin Williams. Either the Colts win, or everyone in attendance will get a free general admission ticket to the final home game of the season on Saturday, August 10. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
