
RoadRunners Cannot Answer Lima Time

LONG BEACH , CALIF - Former big leaguer Jose Lima tossed eight solid innings against the St. George RoadRunners on Wednesday helping the host Armada to a 5-1 victory. The win snapped Long Beach's two-game losing streak and ended the RoadRunners win streak at two.
Lima (5-5) allowed one run on seven hits while striking out six. His only blemish came in the eighth inning when A.J. Valentine singled home Ryan Stevenson with two outs.
Eric Van Slyke went the distance for St. George but received the loss (4-5) surrendering five runs on seven hits. The complete game was Van Slyke's fourth of the season and his third loss after going the entire game.
Long Beach scored all five runs in innings two through four. Steve Moss, making his 2009 Armada debut, drew a one out walk, Asif Shah singled to left and Daryl Jones walked to load the bases in the second frame. DH Matt Edgecombe hit a base hit to left-center scoring two runs. Jon Kaplan capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to shallow right plating Jones to put LB in front 3-0.
With the bases loaded again in the third, Shah's sac fly to center plated Napoleon Calzado who led off with a hit. Omar Bramasco tallied the final Aramda run scoring Howard from third on a grounder in the fourth inning.
Both teams finished the game with seven hits. St. George had three hitters with a pair of single - Ruddy Yan, Valentine and Jose Rodriguez. For the second straight game, Howard was the only LB players with two hits.
The bottom five in the RoadRunner lineup combined to go 0-for-17 with a walk and five strikeouts.
Thursday night's rubber match will be a battle of Las Vegas natives. The RoadRunners will start David Seccombe (5-2, 5.19) while Long Beach counters with southpaw Ben Fox (3-4, 3.88). First pitch is set for 8:05pm Mountain.
