Tucson Toros News Release
Yuma, AZ-The Tucson Toros were downed by a 2-run Yuma Scorpion 8th inning in a 2-1 loss Wednesday night. Tucson received an outstanding starting pitching performance from Vince Davis and out hit Yuma but ultimately came up a run short.
Davis was dominant, throwing seven scoreless frames allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out four. Rene Garcia, who fanned seven in 3 2/3 scoreless innings in his last appearance, wasn't quite as sharp this time. With the game still scoreless in the eighth inning, Garcia allowed both Yuma runs on two hits and a walk to take his second loss of the season.
Tucson manufactured a run in the top of the ninth inning when Designated Hitter Jim Rushford drove in Centerfielder Andre Marshall, but the team came up just a run short to snap a two game winning streak.
The Toros will go for a series victory against the Scorpions in the final game of their roadtrip on Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
