Roadrunners Beat 'Wings for Fourth Straight Win

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners won their fourth straight game as they defeated the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 9-3 Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Robert Roth (2-0) made his first start of the season and allowed one run on four hits in five innings pitched.

The WhiteWings (50-42) got to Roth in the top of the first. Roberto Rodriguez led off the game with a single and then came in to score on an RBI double by Leivi Ventura giving RGV the 1-0 lead.

The Roadrunners (58-35) tied the game at one in the bottom of the second off of RGV starter Reymond Cruz (1-2). Luis Sumoza started the inning with a single and later in the inning came in to score on an RBI double by Pascual Del Real.

Edinburg took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth as they scored four runs on four hits off of Cruz. Eric Bloom, Vincent Blue and Wilmer Pino each had an RBI in the inning giving Edinburg the 5-1 advantage.

After the Roadrunners added another run in the bottom of the fifth, RGV cut the lead in half in the top of the seventh. James Mays hit a two-run triple that allowed Welinson Baez and Michael Pair to score making it 6-3.

The Roadrunners answered back with two more runs in the bottom of the seventh and one more in the top of the eighth extending their lead to 9-3.

Paul Koss came in to wrap things up with a scoreless ninth giving Edinburg the 9-3 victory.

The Roadrunners and WhiteWings will shift their series back to Harlingen on Saturday night at Harlingen Field with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
