San Angelo Colts News Release
Fort Worth, Texas --- Despite hitting four home runs, the Colts fell to the Fort Worth Cats, 10-6, Friday night at LaGrave Field.
First baseman Daryl Jones, catcher Salvador Paniagua, shortstop Danny Hernandez and centerfielder Jason Martin all homered in the loss. It was the second time this season San Angelo has had four home runs in a game.
Jones hit his 10th of the year in the top of the first to give the Colts a 1-0 lead. That edge quickly evaporated, though, as Fort Worth tallied seven runs in just three innings against Colts' starter Mark Willinsky.
Willinsky (9-6) allowed the seven runs on 11 hits for the loss. Reliever Jose Sanchez came in in the fourth and went on to pitch all the way through the seventh inning.
Paniagua's homer in the fourth inning cut San Angelo's deficit to 7-2. It was his seventh of the year.
Then in the fifth, Hernandez and Martin hit back-to-back home runs. Hernandez's first of the year was a two-run shot that scored right fielder Jamar Walton. Martin followed with a solo homer, his seventh. It was the first time this season the Colts have hit home runs in consecutive at-bats.
Despite their offensive prowess, the Colts could not mount a full comeback against Cats' starter Trevor Harden (10-4). Harden gave up five runs on eight hits, and struck out seven batters in eight innings for the win.
The win improves Fort Worth to 50-42, while the loss drops San Angelo to 49-43. This series continues Saturday night at LaGrave Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and the game can be heard online only at www.sanangelocolts.com, beginning at 6:50 p.m.
