Cats Bats Eliminate Losing Streak

August 31, 2012 - North American League (NAmL)
Fort Worth Cats News Release

FORT WORTH "" Every Cats batter had at least one hit Friday night as 10 runs on 17 hits was plenty to snap their five-game winning streak, 10-6, over the Colts at LaGrave Field.

Despite a first inning home run by San Angelo first baseman Daryl Jones to take an early 1-0 advantage, the Cats answered back with two runs in the bottom of the first behind back to back doubles by left fielder Chad Gabriel and designated hitter Jon Dziomba. The DH would later score on a Jose Ruiz single.

Third baseman CJ Beatty and leadoff batter Chad Gabriel both earned multiple RBIs, as they went a combined five-for-ten at the plate.

The Cats would go on to score a total of seven runs in just the first three innings as Colts starter Mark Willinsky struggled to extinguish the hot Fort Worth hitters. The righty would be charged with the loss after surrendering 11 hits in just three innings of work.

Colts reliever Jose Sanchez could not do much to combat the Cats bats as another three runs came across to score throughout four innings pitched.

Willinsky's counterpart, Fort Worth starter Trevor Harden, gave up four home runs but was effective in keeping innings short as three of the shots were done with nobody on base. Harden received his tenth win of the year after striking out seven without a walk and lasting eight innings.

Reliever Brandon Wilkerson would come on to close out the Colts in the ninth inning, giving up one run on two hits.

Seven out of nine Cats crossed the plate, while seven out of nine also had at least one run batted in. A total team effort was needed after Fort Worth had dropped their previous five games.

The Cats finally reached the elusive win number 50. This puts them one game ahead of their postseason first round opponent, the San Angelo Colts, by one game with four to play.

The two teams face off Saturday night at LaGrave Field, where it will be Police and Firefighters Night. Local heroes will be honored, and the night will be extra special as Fan Appreciation Weekend continues. Giveaways will occur throughout the evening, as well as draft beer, fountain drinks, and hot dogs will be discounted to two dollars apiece. Tickets can be purchased at FWCats.com or by phone at (817) 332-CATS.
