EDINBURG, Texas----The Edinburg Roadrunners of United League Baseball announce today the addition of outfielder Amado German, infielder Bryon Smith, infielder/outfielder Robert Matlock and pitchers Pedro Flores and Kelly Casares to the 2009 team. Flores was a part of the original Roadrunners squad in 2001 and returned to Edinburg from 2003-2005.
Flores is a California native from Baldwin Park, California and returns to Edinburg after recent stints with both Coastal Bend and Fort Worth of the American Association. Drafted in 1996 by the Dodgers, Flores was then selected by the Blue Jays in the Rule 5 minor league draft in 1999 and was then released in 2000. In 2008 the lefty posted a 4.06 ERA in 115 innings and ended the season with 94 strikeouts.

Out of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, German has been with the Edinburg franchise since 2005, while skipping the 2006 season. He signed with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization as a non-drafted free agent in 1997 and continued play until 2004. In his last season with Edinburg, German carried a .273 batting average with 34 RBI's.
Matlock, out of Henderson, Tennessee started the 2008 season with the Alexandria Aces, and was then traded to Edinburg to take the place of an injured Nick Aranda. With the franchise he held a .295 batting average and brought in 21 RBI's.
Smith hails from West Moore Oklahoma, and has spent his past three seasons in the American Association playing for both Coastal Bend and most recently El Paso. During the 2008 season he collected a .294 batting average and 60 RBI's.
The Edinburg Roadrunners begin their training camp Thursday June 4th at 5:00 p.m. at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Workouts are free of charge and open to the public.
