San Angelo Colts News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas ---The San Angelo Colts have signed former Houston Astros right-handed starter, Ezequiel Astacio, for the 2009 season. A press conference, to introduce the newest Colts player, will be at Foster Field at 11:15 tomorrow morning.

The native of the Dominican Republic has appeared in 28 Major League Baseball games. In 2005, when the Astros reached the World Series, Astacio started 14 times in 22 appearances. He only walked 25 batters while striking out 66 in 81 innings pitched.

Throughout his career, the pitcher is 61-43 with a 3.95 ERA. Astacio has competed with the Astros, Phillies and Rangers organizations. Last season, he played in the Pacific Coast League affiliate, for the Rangers, where he went 3-5 in 52.1 innings tossed.

Manager, Doc Edwards, feels that Astacio's experience is a plus for the Colts:

"Anytime you get a former Major League ballplayer it is a major advantage. I was fortunate to see him pitch in the World Series a couple of years back. It will be good to have somebody with Major League experience for the younger pitchers to watch."
