Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners of United League Baseball announced today they have signed right handed pitcher Evan Cunningham and released left handed pitcher Robbie Nelson to make room on the roster.

Cunningham, a native of Edinburg, will return to the mound at Edinburg Baseball Stadium for the first time since his stint with the University of Texas Pan-American Broncs Baseball team in 2008.

The rookie began his collegiate career in 2007 pitching for the Artichokes of Oakton Community College in Illinois and ended his single season with the Broncs totaling 59 strikeouts in 60.2 innings pitched to earn 2 wins and 2 saves.

He then returned to up north to spend his senior season with the NCAA Division II Iowa Wesleyan College and posted a 3.47 ERA and a 2-0 record for the Lions.

Though this will be Cunningham's first time suiting up for a professional team, Roadrunners field manager, Vince Moore believes that he will instantly contribute to his pitching staff. "He threw a couple of great bullpens for us and Lupe, our pitching coach, took a good look at him", said Moore, "and we both feel that he is a player that will be able to throw strikes for us."

The Roadrunners head to Amarillo Tuesday, July 13, to face the Dillas and return home Thursday, July 22, to take on the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.

Tickets are available by calling the front office at (956) 380-4446 or by visiting www.etixx.com online.

The Roadrunners are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas that include Amarillo, Coastal Bend, Laredo, Rio Grande Valley and San Angelo.
