Road Win Still Eludes Kings
June 20, 2003 - Frontier League (FL)
Kalamazoo Kings News Release
Kalamazoo Kings starting pitcher Denny McGee worked 7 solid innings for the Kings on Thursday night scattering 4 hits and striking out 10 at Hawkinson Ford Field. But the Kings (8-15) could not gather the offensive power needed, as the Cook County Cheetahs (10-10) claimed a 6-2 victory.
The Kings got on the board in the top of the 6th to tie the score at 2-2. Right fielder Brian Ferreira singled to left, stole second and then scored on a single off the bat of center fielder Darryl Blaze. Blaze eventually came around to score on a wild pitch. The Cheetahs countered in the bottom of the 6th, taking the lead 3-2. Cook County added 3 more runs in the bottom of the 8th to ensure the victory. McGee picked up the loss, his 5th of the season, while Cheetahs starter Grant Williams threw a complete game for his 3rd win of the season.
The Kings will try to get their first road win in 2003 and split the series with the Cook County Cheetahs Friday night at Hawkinson Ford Field. The game begins at 7:05 p.m. central time (8:05 p.m. eastern) You can tune into the game on the Sports Station, AM 1660 WQSN, or listen live on the Internet at www.wqsn.com.
