Rockford Rivets News Release

Wausau, Wis. - Despite a no-hitter from Jimmy Burnette through 5.2 innings, the Rockford Rivets (19-21) dropped a low scoring affair with the Wisconsin Woodchucks 2-1 on Monday night at Athletic Park.

The final line for the Illinois pitcher was 6.2 innings pitched, two hits allowed, two earned runs, six strikeouts, and seven walks.

"Jimmy Burnette did a great job limiting damage tonight," Rivets' Manager Brian Smith said of his starter, "He walked way too many guys, he knows that, so we would call today being effectively wild."

The Woodchucks had a good pitching performance of their own as starter Greg Dunham also had a no-hitter going until Parker Kelly was able to get a single in the top of the seventh to get the first hit of the game for the Rivets' offense.

For the second night in a row, Rockford failed an attempt at rallying late with the score 2-0 going into the eighth. Jacob Vander Wal was able to drop an RBI single into right field and score Logan Michaels making his debut in a Rivets' uniform, but no more Rivets were able to get across the plate.

The Rivets got three hits today, compared to two by the Woodchucks. This is the second straight game the Rivets have lost while out hitting the other team.

The Rivets now head to Wisconsin Rapids for the first time this year to continue the four-game road trip. First pitch is at 7:05 PM.
