Camden Riversharks News Release
CAMDEN- The Riversharks had revenge on their minds Friday night, after the Somerset Patriots swept Camden in a three game series last weekend. Stephen Drew's two-run double in the bottom of the 8th broke a 5-5 tie, as the Riversharks downed the Patriots 7-5 on Friday night, in front of 4,865 fans at Campbell's Field.
The Riversharks got a strong pitching performance from southpaw Kevin Dougherty, who pitched 7 innings for the win, improving to 3-0 on the season.
âSharks first baseman Ryan Jones kicked off the scoring in the first inning, launching a 2-run homerun (6) to centerfield off Patriots starter Derek Lee.
The Patriots tied the game at two in the top of the 4th on an RBI double off the bat of Jeremy Owens. Two batters later, Owens scored an RBI single from catcher Chris Eickhorst, giving the Patriots a 3-2 lead.
With the score tied at five in the bottom of the 8th, Patriots reliever Nick Bierbrodt let all three batters he faced reach base, thanks to two walks and a hit batsmen, which set the table for Drew's timely double. Bierbrodt took the loss for the division leading Patriots.
The two teams square off in the middle game of the series on Saturday night at 6:35. Left-hander Jaime Steward looks to build off his strong outing last week in Atlantic City. He will be opposed by right hander Greg Modica.
