Pride defeat Ducks 6-3

The Nashua Pride made it three straight wins on Friday night, a 6-3 triumph over the Long Island Ducks at Historic Holman Stadium before a crowd of 1,668.

Nashua (14-13) took the lead to stay in the first inning on a solo homer by third baseman Shane Hopper, his first of the season.

The Pride made it 3-0 in the third on a double by David Francia, singles by Hopper and Darren Bragg and a Long Island error, one of four made by the Ducks in the ballgame.

Nashua added a single run in the fifth on an infield single by Franica who then stole second and third and scored on a throwing error by Long Island (11-16) catcher Steve Torrealba.

The Pride completed their scoring in the sixth on a two-run triple by shortstop Pete Shier.

Pride starter Colin Young (1-0) went five scoreless innings to post his first win of the season. It was Young's first professional start since 1999. He allowed just two Long Island hits. Jimmy Mann came out of the Nashua bullpen to record the final out of the game and pick up his sixth save of the season.

Long Island starter Lance Davis (1-4) went six innings, allowing nine hits and six runs, four earned and suffered the loss.

The Pride and the Ducks resume their three-game series Saturday night at 7:05 at Historic Holman Stadium. Righthander Rob Averette (1-3, 7.83) will be on the mound for Nashua with former Boston Red Sox and Nashua Pride righthander Paxton Crawford (4-1, 1.32) scheduled for Long Island.
