Rivermen Sign Carroll and Desnoyers

Peoria Rivermen General Manager Kevin McDonald announced today that the club has signed forward Andrew Carroll and defenseman Marc-Antoine Desnoyers (marc-AN-twan den-WHY-ee) to professional tryout contracts (PTO). Also St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the Blues have recalled defenseman Nikita Nikitin (NICK-it-in) the Rivermen.
Carroll, 25, most recently has been a member of the ECHL Greenville Road Warriors. In nine games this season he has registered nine points (six goals, three assists) and six penalty minutes. He has also spent time with the Abbotsford Heat this year on a PTO. He had a goal and an assist in 13 games before being sent back to Greenville.
Last season as a rookie, the 5-foot-11-inch, 195-pound winger put up an impressive 47 points (30 goals, 17 assists) in 61 games for the ECHL Charlotte Checkers. His 30 goals were 13th in the league and fourth among all ECHL rookies. He saw his first AHL action by appearing in four games with the Hartford Wolfpack. A native of Shoreview, Minn., Carroll played four seasons at the University of Minnesota - Duluth.
Desnoyers, 21, has appeared in 12 games with the ECHL Elmira Jackals and collected four points and a plus-4 rating. A rookie from St. Jerome, Que,, he attended training camp this year with the Montreal Canadiens (NHL) and Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL).
Prior to starting his professional career, Desnoyers played five seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with Rouyn-Noranda, Acadie-Bathurst, and Drummondville. While with Drummondville over the past two seasons he was a teammate of Rivermen goaltender Jake Allen and played for Rivermen assistant coach Danny Brooks. The trio was part of the 2008-09 team that won the QMJHL championship.
Nikitin, 24, has made 12 appearances with the Blues this season serving two penalty minutes. While in Peoria, the 6'3, 217-pound defenseman played in four games recording one goal and a plus-1 rating. The Omsk, Russia native was originally drafted by St. Louis in the fifth round, 136th overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
