Rivermen Roar Back in Game two to Beat Royals, 4-2

The Peoria Rivermen got two goals from rookie Garrett Cameron and a pair of assists by Marty Johnston to skate to a 4-2 win over Reading in game two of the Northern Divsion Finals. After going scoreless for 53 minutes in game one, the Rivermen struck first just 27 seconds into the contest as Jason Norrie registered his first goal of the post season. Joe Vandermeer tallied his team leading fifth post-season assist. Nick Lees would tie the score for Reading at 3:03 of the period. The rookie has two goals in the post season in just four starts. Reading and Peoria ended the first period tied 1-1.

The Rivermen would outscore the Royals 2-1 in the second stanza to build a 3-2 lead heading into the third. Garrett Cameron and Chad Starling (SH) chipped in goals for the home team, while the lone Royals goal came from Judd Medak shorthanded, his third goal of the playoffs. Dean Arsene and Kent Davyduke registered assists on the Reading goal. Arsene collected two assists in the contest to record his second multiple point game of the post season.

Cameron would score again for Peoria at 13:41 of the third period to seal the Royals fate. For just the second time in the post season Reading was held without a power play goal.

The Royals were without the services of leading playoff scorer David Masse who has five goals, four on the power play and nine points in seven games. Masse served a one game suspension due to an altercation with a Peoria fan following game one.

The Royals and Rivermen will meet in games three and four in the Sovereign Center in Reading on Wedneday and Thursday at 7:05 p.m. The Kelly Cup will be on display in the concourse during both games, plus get to the game early as one of the first 2,000 fans will receive a Royals rally card courtesy of Riecks' Printing.
