Peoria Rivermen News Release

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Rivermen spent most of the night battling from behind and tied the game in the third period before a late five-on-three power play led to a 4-3 Louisiana IceGators win Saturday night. The loss, Peoria's second in a row, drops the Rivermen to 27-8-3 with one more game left in the current home series against the IceGators.

Louisiana opened the scoring at 4:48 of the first period when former Rivermen winger Luke Sandler took a feed in the slot and buried it past Rivermen goaltender David Jacobson for the 1-0 lead. The IceGators' lead doubled at 14:35 of the first after Louisiana went on the power play. After Connor Toomey was called for roughing at 14:18 following a tie-up with Sandler, a shot from Jake Hauswirth resulted in a rebound that Sandler lifted over Jacobson's left pad to make it 2-0.

Peoria cut the Louisiana lead in half early in the second period. At the 1:23 mark of the middle frame Walker Wintoneak skated into the left circle and beat IceGators goaltender Adam Courchaine with a quick snapshot to make it 2-1. The IceGators re-upped their lead at 3-1 at the 10:30 mark of the second period when Zac Frischmon banged home a rebound of a Hauswirth shot. The Rivermen cut their deficit back to one at the 18:50 mark of the second when Dave Pszenyczny took a feed coming across the goalmouth and put it past Courchaine to make it 3-2. The goal came just two seconds after a Rivermen power play ended on the expiration of a holding penalty against Sandler.

The Rivermen tied the game in the middle stages of the third period when Steve Morra batted a puck out of the air inside the Louisiana blue line, walked to the high slot and uncorked a wrist shot that was tipped past Courchaine by Chris Wilson to even the score at three. The game looked poised to go to extra timewhen at 18:48 of the third Peoria's Alec Hagaman was boxed for boarding and at 19:36 Dan Bremner was whistled for delay of game. With a five-on-three power play, Hauswirth took a shot from the right circle that resulted in a rebound put into the net by Frischmon to give Louisiana the 4-3 victory.

Jacobson stopped 38 of 42 shots in goal as he took the loss to fall to 8-6-0 in his first SPHL season. Jacobson has lost back-to-back decisions after he started his Peoria tenure with eight consecutive victories in goal.
