Last night's Rivermen loss to the IceGators saw Peoria whistled for 60 penalty minutes on 15 infractions while Louisiana was only called for 26 penalty minutes on 10 total penalties. Last night's game included two sets of fighting majors issued, and three misconducts called against the Rivermen, including a game misconduct called against head coach Jean-Guy Trudel late in the first period. After last night's game, the Rivermen sit third in the SPHL with 20.65 penalty minutes per game.
A CASE OF THE WILLIES
Rivermen forward Chris Wilson posted a goal last night to give him a point or more in each of his last five games. Over Peoria's last five games, Wilson has a team-best nine points on five goals and four assists. Since joining Peoria in a November trade with Louisiana, the 2010-11 SPHL Rookie of the Year has logged 13 goals and 17 assists in 27 games as a member of the Rivermen.
THE WHOLE SHOOTING MATCH
The Rivermen enter play tonight after out-shooting the IceGators 38-28 last night, putting them second in the SPHL in shots on goal per game this season at 34.19 while leading the league in fewest SOG allowed per game at 28.68. In the first period of games this season, the Rivermen have out-shot their opponents 442-323, the widest margin for any SPHL team in any period this season. In seven games between the Rivermen and IceGators this year, Peoria has out-shot Louisiana by a combined total of 229-166.
WHAT'S AHEAD
After tonight's game the Rivermen will conclude their season series with the IceGators tomorrow afternoon at Carver Arena. Following the series with Louisiana the Rivermen will have a weekend without games before returning to their home ice for a pair with the defending SPHL champion Knoxville Ice Bears February 26 & 27, then the Rivermen will host the Pensacola Ice Flyers March 4-6 for the first matchup between Peoria and Pensacola since the season's opening weekend. Following a trio of games against the Ice Flyers in Peoria, the Rivermen will return to the road for a pair of games March 11 & 12 in Huntsville.
