Peoria Rivermen News Release
Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel announced Wednesday that University of Connecticut product Jordan Sims has been signed for the 2014-15 season.
Sims, 24, is the son of former Boston Bruins defenseman Al Sims, who played nearly 500 games in the National Hockey League. Al Sims also endured a 24-year coaching career in professional hockey including stints with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks (assistant coach) and San Jose Sharks (head coach). Plus, he coached the Fort Wayne Komets of the old International Hockey League, who fell to the Rivermen in the Turner Cup finals in 1990-91.
A native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jordan Sims is a 5'11, 185-pound center looking to begin his pro career. Over 146 games at UConn, he produced 36 goals with 65 assists and became just the seventh player in the program's NCAA Div. I history to reach 100 career points. In addition, Sims recorded an impressive plus-18 rating and served as an alternate captain during his senior season.
Sims comes to Peoria highly recommended by current Rivermen defenseman Ben Oskroba, who played with him for 13 games last year.
