Mississippi RiverKings News Release

Maddox Hockey, Inc. announced today that Whitley Porter Rives is returning to the organization as the team's new Community Development Coordinator. Rives will be responsible for building and managing programs through which the RiverKings support charitable causes and nonprofit organizations across northwest Mississippi and the mid-South region.

"I am really, really excited about coming back to work with the team and our fans," Rives said. "Our community work is first rate, our fans are passionate, our sponsors are great, and I love the sport. Plus, the organization is making significant improvements in how it works with sponsors, fans and the community. It is going to be a fantastic year."

A fan favorite as mistress of ceremonies for many in-game and intermission activities, Rives will also manage fund- raising activities for nonprofits held in conjunction with RiverKings games.

"Whitley has for many years, as a staff member and volunteer, brought a high degree of energy and commitment to her work," said Dave "Ab" Mattice, Director of Business Operations for the RiverKings. "We believe that her return to the organization on a full-time basis will strengthen our ability to serve our fans and the entire community."

As part of the move, the M.V.P. (Money-Volunteers-Publicity) Program initiated last year by the Maddox Foundation will now be part of the community development work of the RiverKings.

"M.V.P. offers some unique opportunities for businesses to promote their favorite charitable organizations and causes while achieving their advertising objectives at the same time," said Rives. "By partnering with the RiverKings, sponsors can increase funding for nonprofits, promote community volunteerism, and generate publicity for their work. Plus, every dollar invested with the RiverKings provides an additional $4 in economic impact in the county."

Rives graduated from Troy University with a double major in theater and Spanish, and with a minor in broadcast journalism. After college, she worked as a reporter for the DeSoto Times Today before first going to work for the RiverKings in 2002. She has also worked in grants development with the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi and, most recently, as Program Assistant with the Maddox Foundation.

Maddox Hockey, Inc., or the Mississippi RiverKings, is a for-profit entity supported in part by Maddox Foundation, an independent private foundation based in Hernando, Miss. The Foundation created Maddox Hockey in 2002 as a program-related investment, to lessen the burden of the Desoto County government by increasing the viability of the Desoto Civic Center and promoting the long-term community and economic development of the region. The Foundation now uses the team in a variety of programs that increase investments in area charities and their causes.
