David Morelli Returns to the Rage
June 27, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage have agreed to terms with centerman David Morelli, who becomes the second player along with defenseman Tyler Butler under contract with the team for the upcoming 2008-09 Central Hockey League season.
Morelli enters his third year as a pro having posted 27 points (14g-13a) last season for the Rage. Following a slow start to his first campaign in a Rocky Mountain sweater, the native of British Columbia notched 24 points after the Christmas holiday over his final 40 games of the season. His second half surge included one of the club's six hat tricks last year on the road against the Corpus Christi Rayz on Feb. 1.
"David's start on the scoresheet last year wasn't a true reflection of how he was playing. He kept working hard and the numbers began to follow," said Rage Head Coach and General Manager Tracy Egeland. "He's talented offensively, but more importantly, he's a true character guy. He's been very committed this off-season to getting in the gym and preparing for next year. I have no doubt that his hard work will pay off, and that he'll be a key contributor for us."
"Obviously I'm very happy and thrilled to be back," said Morelli. "The way we're treated here and the quality of players Tracy brings in, there's not another team in the league I'd rather be with. I'm looking forward to building off what we achieved last year and winning a championship."
Morelli played collegiate hockey at and graduated from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He turned pro in 2006-07 and was named Rookie of the Year for the Elmira Jackals, then of the United Hockey League. He remained in the area this off-season, living in Westminster with his wife, Christina, and working at Legacy Ridge Golf Course.
